Certification
CODAP 2005 Certification
This is the French equivalent of the BSI Standards, or the German TÜV. Design calculations to this standard must conform to the CODAP 2005 specifications and the final design must be approved.
PED Certification
The PED applies to the design, manufacture and conformity assessment of pressure equipment and assemblies of pressure equipment with a maximum allowable pressure greater than 0.5 bar.
Guidelines specifically exclude "covers, collars, gaskets and flanges" and "sight glasses with frames" from the definition of "Pressure Accessory"
Therefore these items do not need to be CE marked.
These items are classed as "components of pressure equipment" and are therefore part of an assembly which must be CE marked by the manufacturer.
Manways Statement
All PED approved doors are designed to recognise standards (eg TUV/ CODAP 2005) for use on vessels to comply with PED 97/23/EC and will be supplied with a documentation package including Material Certificates, Design Calculations and Test Results.

Sight Glass Statement
All sight glass fittings designed for use over 0.5 bar will be supplied complete with a letter of conformity stating the standard to which they were manufactured or against which they have been assessed.
Where nominal pressures are stated for rectangular sightglass fittings, these refer to the design base. It is the responsibility of the pressure equipment manufacturer to ensure that the welded in assembly meet the appropriate strength calculations and, if not, provide reinforcement of the vessel wall as necessary.
All sightglasses are supplied with a general description of the pressure component and instructions for use and maintenance as required by the Directive.
The material requirements of the directive are not intended for component manufacturers who are not material manufacturers in the context of the PED even if they modify the mechanical properties of the material.
To be incorporated into an item of pressure equipment, components which are manufactured from materials such as plates and bar should meet all the relevant ESR's related to the manufacturing process.
Therefore sightglass fittings and similar items will be delivered with the appropriate material certificates for base and cover flanges together with letters of conformity covering the glass, studs and gaskets as necessary.
